This role is a 6 months maternity leave cover. Whilst this is a remote role and we welcome applicants located nationally, ideally the applicant will be able to commute into Birmingham to meet the needs of the business.

As our Data Protection Specialist, you will support the internal audit and assurance team as well as the wider business to evaluate the effectiveness of our controls, identify risks and make recommendations for improvement. More specifically, you will ensure compliance with relevant legislation and act as a key point of contact for all queries, SARs, events and PIAs. You will own the Data Protection Framework, ensuring increased visibility of data protection principles, procedures and risks, whilst maintaining a thorough knowledge of all data protection legislation, information security best practice and the regulatory environment and show a good understanding of all delivery procedures, operational guidance and contractual requirements.

Developing and maintaining training and guidance materials for all staff will be key, to ensure increased visibility and awareness of data protection and compliance risks across the business, by providing expert advice on complex queries relating to the introduction of new contracts, processes and systems, but also identifying gaps in knowledge and training requirements across the business.

You will contribute to the development of the Information Security and Data Protection Strategy and support the development of the Ingeus UK ISMS and Data Protection Framework and will play a big part in the implementation of the GDPR and develop a framework to monitor compliance with all regulations.  

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • Develop and maintain the Records Management System
  • Develop and maintain all Data Protection and Records Management Policies
  • Act as a key point of contact for all data security events
  • Act as a key point of contact for data security queries, complaints, SARs and data requests
  • Analyse trends and produce regular reports for the UK MD, DPO and Information Security Governance Committee
  • Provide support/ lead as appropriate on all Data Security related external audits
  • Contribute to the development of internal audit tools

We are looking for someone who has a solid understanding of the DPA, GDPR, e-Privacy Regulations, Information Security and Records Management principles, substantial experience working within a Data Security environment/role, proven experience of the practical application of the Data Protection Act, thorough understanding of risk management methodologies, risk assessment, identification and controls.
