Health Trainer

Salary: £24,806.25 annum + benefits

Contract: Full time 15 month Fixed Term

Locations: Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland

Making positive changes to your health and wellbeing can be incredibly challenging, especially after being involved in the criminal justice system.

We’re looking for a Health Trainer - someone with a rare mix of compassion, resilience, self-motivation and flexibility. This is for the person who understands that rehabilitation isn’t just about offering advice; it’s about rolling up your sleeves and pro-actively supporting someone on their journey.

This is a demanding role; you'll be working in a challenging environment with people who have complex needs and who can often be reluctant to engage. However, it’s a great feeling when you help someone break down the barriers that are affecting their mental health and wellbeing and support people to lead a healthier lifestyle.

About the Role:

  • Based mainly in local probation offices, you will be meeting with people on probation to improve their health and develop healthier lifestyles
  • Managing Health Trainer champions
  • Help build confidence, motivation and self-efficacy among people on probation
  • Support behaviour changes in areas such as diet, exercise, smoking, stress and mental wellbeing
  • Help people find and access the health & wellbeing services they need
  • Complete health and wellbeing assessments and devise tailored personal health plans
  • Help people on probation to identify how their way of life might affect their health and well-being and help them to make the changes they want to
  • Support people on probation to access social groups, healthcare, and other related appointments
  • Work collaboratively with probation practitioners and other related services to provide wraparound support
  • Manage a varied caseload and meet strict deadlines to ensure each person gets the support they need
  • Deliver group workshops and drop-in sessions as well as 1-2-1 support
  • Maintain meticulous records of every interaction. Why? Because progress only counts when it’s measured

What We’re Looking For:

  • Relationship Building: You’re able to connect with people at all levels, building relationships with people on probation in a way that’s genuine, promotes a sense of trust and is non-judgmental. You will pay particular attention to confidentiality and maintenance of boundaries
  • Safeguarding awareness: You are supporting complex individuals at a challenging time in their lives and will need to be able to identify any safeguarding risks and follow the appropriate processes
  • IT and Administrative skills: Keeping meticulous records of every interaction to measure client progress and ensure effective interventions
  • Resilience: This role can be challenging, and results may take time, but you are the kind of person who stays committed and sees things through
  • Flexibility: You’ll need to be comfortable with change, as referral flows change frequently
  • Transport: You'll need to travel between probation offices and community sites each day. You will be given a base (agreed at offer stage) and travel to other sites will be reimbursed

What We Offer:

At Ingeus, we listen to our employees and have developed a benefits package that supports both your personal and professional well-being:

  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to trade for additional leave.
  • EAP Support programme available 24/7, including 6 free counselling sessions.
  • Private medical insurance and life assurance.
  • Up to 2 days of Community Giving (volunteering) each year to support a cause that matters to you.
  • Eyecare vouchers to help with glasses or eye care.
  • Exclusive discounts via Perks at Work.
  • Cycle to Work scheme and travel season ticket loan.
  • Long service awards to celebrate your commitment.
  • Salary Finance offering financial education and advice.
  • The opportunity to purchase extra benefits like critical illness cover and dental insurance.

Whilst we welcome applications from those with lived experience, this role requires an enhanced Level 1 DBS check. As we wait for the necessary background checks to be completed, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to shadow your colleagues, ask questions, and learn the ropes at your own pace. We want you to feel fully supported and confident before working independently.

At Ingeus, our Justice division is dedicated to transforming lives and creating safer communities. We work alongside individuals on probation and those leaving prison to empower change, provide opportunities, and support rehabilitation. Our mission is to reduce reoffending, build stronger communities, and help people realise their potential.
